If you're a small business and you're trying to market your website, you may find it difficult to compete with the larger companies. You know, the companies that have triple the number of employees that you have, the companies that have 10 more websites than you have, the companies with deeper pockets than you have.
So, how can you, as a small business, compete on the Internet? Easy - Long Tail Marketing!
Long Tail Marketing is the concept of targeting keyword phrases that…

Mike Seidle from
Pro Blog Service wrote..."Most of our clients at Professional Blog Service come in thinking SEO. Somewhere they hear that blogging works for getting better ranks on Google. Then a funny thing happens: After about one-three weeks the light goes on and they realize that social media can be much bigger than SEO for their business. After that the game changes to a full on social media blitz - and the SEO benefits - they don’t…

A Day In The Life Of A Search Engine Optimizer
Some business owners begin Internet marketing on their own. They read the small business guides and learn all they can about search engine optimization. It's a great way to begin Internet marketing because, in my opinion, it gives the business owner first hand knowledge of what is REALLY involved in the SEO process. But for those of you who simply hired someone to manage Internet marketing, search engine optimization for your website, let me…

The 2008 Christmas season will definitely be a reflection of the economy at the time. And by all accounts, the economy during Christmas 2008 will not be good. As more and more economists tell us that we haven't yet hit rock bottom, the worst is yet to come, etc. I think it's only fair to conclude that we will be in for a rocky ride not only for the end of 2008 but most if not all of 2009. Let's hope it ends in 2009! But, time will tell.
But, back to 2008 Christmas season - how can you…

"I typed my name in and I'm nowhere on Google?"
Usually, a day or two after I begin marketing a new website, I get this question in an email or phone call. Even though on the proposal I sent out to the client and on the contract I have the client sign it clearly states that it takes 3-8 months to get listed and ranked in Google's engine. But, the questions still come. So, to answer this question, here's a quick little summary of how Google lists sites.
1) Contrary to what…

Does your website have goals? I mean REALLY!
I bet you think it does. Some of you may be right. But, just to make sure, go and check.
The website goals I'm talking about are measurable goals. This means that when you look through your website stats you can measure if the goals are being met or not. After all, what's the point of reviewing statistics on the website if you don't even know if the campaign is working? But believe me, so many website owners just get a report of…

One of my favourite little tools to use to keep up with "news" is
Google
Alerts.
If you haven't used it yet, I don't know what you are waiting for. It's one of the best ways to
stay ahead and on top of anything that you are interested in.
I find the best way to use it is to type in my subject in quotes. That way Google only alerts me
when any news comes up just for that particular phrase. Otherwise, I would get ale…

In these tough (and seemily getting tougher) economic times, small businesses are popping up everywhere! Internet marketing for small businesses is one of the (if not THE) cheapest form of advertising available. Well, I mean it's not the CHEAPEST, printing and handing out flyers is cheaper BUT the return on investment is much greater. So, in the long run, it's the cheapest!
But, you do have to do your homework.
SEO pri…

As an
SEO webmaster, I am continuously “scolded” by copywriters. I don’t mean Internet copywriters, I mean copywriters, those who write for print. “Writing for websites”, I tell them, “is not the same as writing for print.”
What’s their usual response?
I’m not writing for SEO, I’m writing for the readers! I’m not manipulating my words just to meet some SEO rules.
That’s the usual response I get, something like that. And I hav

Of course, with all the news about the “economic meltdown” it’s hard to NOT think about how SEO is being impacted by this economy. I firmly believe though that more and more businesses will be looking at their SEO campaigns - or starting one - as they realize the low costs that are associated with Internet marketing. And not only the low costs, but the long lasting effects.

The benefits of local search are growing and growing.
Why? Well, there's a few reasons.
1) The local engines are spending more dollars on advertising themselves.
2) The local engines are also adding more features, interactive maps, skype phone access, more customer information, etc.
3) More services are interacting with the local engines. Services like mobile hone internet providers.
4) The main search engines like Google and Yahoo index the…

As the owner of an

I just finished the monthly SEO reports (I know, I'm a day late) for Eckweb. I reviewed 71 websites and the results always impress me. I'm not saying these reports are all showing increased rankings and traffic or increased conversions. What I'm impressed by is the correlation between
