Florida friendly Irises and iris look alikes

The blackberry lily or leopard lily, otherwise known as freckleface is really an orange iris that will grow in Florida but is not a native plant. I am growing these from seeds.

Frost preparations yesterday

It was predicted to be 34F degrees last night, 32Fdegrees tonight and 28F degrees Friday night. Luckily it rained recently, which is good, because cold weather is less dangerous for plants if the soil is not dry. Yesterday we brought some frost- sensitive plants that were in containers indoors. I used a solar oven today to cook zucchini, broccoli, and onions in a 1 liter pot and a small amount of rice in a 1/2 liter pot. The sun was shining all day long and we even had a high in the mid 60's. Broccoli is well suited for solar ovens.
The stems cook to tender perfection and the fragile tops are in perfect condition after cooking in the low temperature of the solar oven.

When customers come to a show I love watching them say "Look! That's the piece in the postcard!" It seems to add a bit of "celebrity" status to my pieces making them more desirable and sort of burning the business name into their minds. Also, if someone is interested in a piece but is still on the fence about buying it I give them a postcard or a photo of the piece (with contact information on the back) to keep as a reminder. After giving out a postcard a customer came back about a year later to buy the actual piece. His wife said that he was drooling over the postcard which they had stuck on their refrigerator for a year. Advertising and marketing is a strange field! Do whatever works!
